How to Become the Support CEOs Can’t Do Without

If you’re an OBM or VA who’s showing up, doing the work, and genuinely wants to grow, this one’s just for you. (And if you’re a CEO? Stay right here because we’re going to dive into what excellent ops support actually looks like, so you know exactly what to ask for.)

Today, I’m walking you through where I started as a VA to leading an entire ops agency, and all the lessons I learned along the way: what I had to unlearn, the standards I hold for myself (and every single person on my team), and the things I wish someone had told me years ago that would have changed how fast I grew.

We Discuss:

  • The shift from doer to ops leader doesn’t start with a title or a rate. It starts with a question. When I started asking “If this were MY business, what would I be doing?” of every client I worked with, I stopped waiting to be told and started seeing what to do. This was the catalyst to becoming an ops leader long before anyone handed me the title, and it’s also one of the biggest reasons clients stay with KDC for years.
  • Operations is the whole thing, not the “background.” There was one belief I used to hold and now call complete BS: ops mattered less than the CEO. The truth is ops work is invisible when it’s working and felt immediately when it’s gone. If you’re in ops, you are the reason your CEO can show up, sell, and not have it all fall apart behind them. That’s not a small thing…that’s the whole thing.
  • The 5 KDC standards that separate excellent ops support from “just fine” “Just fine” ops gets tasks done. The truly excellent OBMs and VAs who become indispensable to their clients are the ones who hold themselves to these 5 standards.
  • Caring deeply isn’t a soft skill. It’s the whole strategy. The one thing I wish someone had told me early? You have to genuinely care. Treat clients like real humans with real stress and real dreams, not a retainer on an income spreadsheet. That care is what drives referrals, multi-year retention, and the “I didn’t even know half the stuff you did” voice memos after a launch.
